AN ALGORITHM FOR MAPPING NOISE PRODUCED BY URBAN TRANSPORT SERVICES

Italian Law DM 29/11/2000 established that noise levels produced by buses, coaches and trams must respect noise limits of area and road buffers classification. Public and Private transport companies are directly requested to point out specific action plans for the reduction of those levels.
A method for mapping of noise produced by public transport services in complex urban sites is shown, The search for procedural solutions that can reduce the number of calculations and measurement campaigns brings to a method based on the classification of critical sites.
The paper refers to a multi-variable algorithm for the optimal choice of receivers areas, characterized by specifically critical situations that make noise more relevant. It has been applied with success to 44 context sceneries, representing the urban and suburban area of Florence.
The definition of significant variables and parameters (referred to noise source analysis) and the main procedure, based on a couple-checking algorithm that brings to the resulting 15 pivot sceneries is illustrated in detail.
