RAILWAY NOISE MAPPING, ACTION PLANS AND NOISE BARRIER DESIGN IN ITALY

The paper refers to the Italian experience in railway noise mapping and barrier design, starting from RFI (infrastructure board of Italian State Railways company) action plan and according to the RFI standard for barrier design. The standard methodology for acoustic and structural designing of railway noise barriers is here illustrated in its theoretical aspects and in its critical application points. For examples and applications the paper refers to case studies regarding the reduction of railway noise in the city centre of Florence and at Figline Valdarno, a small historical town near Florence; both are part of the action plan carried out by RFI, following the disposal of Italian Law DM 29.11.2000 and of a special agreement between RFI and Tuscany Region for the co-financed realization of some high priority projects.
