A STANDARD PROCEDURE FOR ACOUSTIC DESIGN OF RAILWAY NOISE BARRIER

Starting from the Italian State Railways Action Plan, this paper describes a methodology for acoustic designing of railway noise barriers agreeable with national and international standards. In the 5-steps planning and designing procedure, a punctual analysis of noise issues and effects produced by rail traffic, including several possibilities of noise reduction and mitigation, is performed; as well as some best fitting methods for barriers design, based on barrier insertion in validated railway noise models, are described. Two case studies, where the procedure has been tested, are shown.
