Environmental acoustics, intensimetric and vibration measurements

Acoustics is our passion and our professional excellence. Thanks to the experience and professionalism of the team members, we are able to provide a fast and qualified service on all aspects of environmental acoustics. Among others, we provide the following services:
NOISE MAPPING OF MAJOR ROADS AND AGGLOMERATIONS
In application of Directive 2002/49/EC and Legislative Decree 194/2005, we follow all aspects, from the development of the simulation model of the distinct components (road, major road, rail, air, industry) to their integration. We support Administrations at all stages, including approval processes, delivering data in accordance with the new Guidelines of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, and drafting the relevant geo-referenced information datasets required by the EU, in accordance with the latest updates.
NOISE AND TRAFFIC FLOW MONITORING
Also, thanks to a significant measurement system, consisting of several sound level meter systems and 4 radar traffic counters, we can guarantee the performance of noise and traffic flow monitoring of critical short-, medium- and long-term situations, also aimed at performing noise assessments required by Law 447/95. Data can be used as inputs to computational models or as data sets for their calibration.
MUNICIPAL NOISE ZONING PLANS
In compliance with the provisions of Law 447/95 (Framework Law on Noise Pollution), we prepare or update Municipal Acoustic Classification Plans, completed with technical reports and maps, assisting the Administration in all phases of the approval process, also participating – if required – in the Conferences of Services (Conferenze dei Servizi). We also prepare Technical Implementation Standards and Regulations for noisy activities.
ACOUSTIC MITIGATION: PLANNING AND INTERVENTIONS
We provide the best support to our clients to ensure compliance with national and international regulations:
Municipal Noise Abatement Plans: related to noise emissions produced by vehicle traffic on roads of municipal relevance; acoustic characterization of critical issues and preparation of the Plan, with sizing of mitigation interventions, their costs and timing of implementation, also with reference to sensitive receptors such as schools, care homes and hospitals.
Road Infrastructure Mitigation Plans: related to noise emissions produced by vehicle traffic on roads pertaining to the contracting authority; definition of noise criticalities and preparation of the Plan. Characterization of acoustic mitigation interventions, such as installation of noise barriers, paving of low-noise asphalts, reduction of transit speeds.
Noise Abatement Plans for companies: related to noise emissions produced by the Companies’ activities; acoustic characterization of critical issues and preparation of the Plan, with sizing of mitigation interventions, their costs and timing of implementation.
Action Plans: ulfillment of the requirements of Directive 2002/49/EC, and Legislative Decree 194/2005, regarding the preparation of the Strategic Action Plan of urban agglomerations or major infrastructures; definition of noise criticalities and preparation of the Plan. Characterization of strategic and design interventions for mitigation, critical sources, quiet areas, sensitive receptors.
Design and testing of noise barriers: we complement the traditional design of the noise barrier with an approach where, in addition to the noise mitigation function, we seek to enhance the potential multi-functionality of the artifact, in terms of street furniture, energy production, use of recycled materials, information and/or communication, as well as a suitable integration with the intended use of the area where it is installed. Testing of noise barriers is carried out in compliance with UNI 1793-5:2016 / 1793-6:2018 (sound reflection coefficient / sound insulation) and UNI 11022:2003 (insertion loss).
Design and testing of low-noise road pavements: upon request of operators carrying out maintenance activities, or for the purpose of acoustic rehabilitation works, we can provide extensive experience – also carried out within the framework of EU co-funded projects – in typological design and performance models of asphalts, with a LCC comparable with the one of traditional asphalts. Following paving, we carry out all common acoustic performance verification methods (SPB, USPB, CPX etc.) in urban settings.
Smart Acoustic Solutions for Cities: our designers adopt an inclusive and participatory approach for the design of acoustic mitigation interventions in cities, carefully enhancing the strategic integration between plans and the participatory design of noise abatement interventions. This approach takes advantage of surprising opportunities to design elements which improve the quality of urban environments, without additional costs, with the collaboration of citizens and public administrators, in order to preserve quiet areas as part of an overarching Smart City policy.
NOISE EMISSION CHARACTERIZATION OF SIMPLE AND COMPLEX SOURCES BY NOISE MEASUREMENTS AND INTENSIMETRIC TESTS
Our team is able to measure and solve noise issues produced by large and highly complex noise sources (e.g., test benches at industrial sites). Industrial noise: characterization of the environmental noise produced by large industrial plants with a high degree of complexity, characterized by shielding problems due to functional constraints. We can produce customized acoustic models for individual sources and single environments, preparing business plans for noise abatement, including control and mitigation of noise from machinery and equipment, process piping, auxiliaries. Wind farms: characterization of environmental noise and verification of compliance with immission limits and reduction of perceived annoyance. We can support our clients in managing difficulties arising during permit applications, conflicts and disputes with receptors, suggesting, even during the design stages, optimal location and adjustment of wind turbines to ensure maximum operability and tolerability of noise immission.
VIBRATION
Indoor vibration: we have systems for the measurement and evaluation of vibration disturbance in residential, hospital and school environments from vehicular traffic, railroad or industrial activities. The assessment of the disturbance is carried out taking into consideration the limits defined by UNI 9614:2017.
